Jarosław Gwizdak is a Member of the IUS Council, barrister, and former judge, as well as former president of the District Court in Katowice. The first recipient of Poland’s “Most Pro-Citizen Judge” award, he has been active in defending judicial independence since 2018. A Policy Leadership Fellow at the European University Institute (2022), he has contributed to judiciary reforms in Ukraine and Georgia. Since October 2024, he has served as Minister of Justice Plenipotentiary for the Open Judiciary and writes as a legal columnist for Rzeczpospolita.
